What is Mission u?

Mission u Events are opportunities to study current issues impacting society. The events are open to members and non-members of the United Methodist Church.

At Mission u you grow in understanding of the mission of the church in the current world context. The studies give particular attention to our responsibilities in the fulfillment of the mission work of the church. The events also include worship & singing, interest groups around current issues, audiovisual presentations and fellowship.

Mission u offers course content spanning key interrelated topics. This is more than a training - it is a guided learning experience. Mission u events are held throughout the year, usually in four regions of Alaska: Southeast, Northern, South Central, and Southeast. The current studies will be offered in on the Kenai Peninsula at Seward Memorial United Methodist Church in Seward, in the South Central Region at United Methodist Church of Chugiak in Chugiak, Northern Region at United Methodist Church of Chugiak in Chugiak, and in Southeast at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Juneau.

Mission u takes place annually across the nation and is organized by conference United Methodist Women leadership. Events are facilitated by a Mission Education Dean and planning team. Study leaders prepare through a certification process which includes full participation in a three day leadership training.

We believe it is important that we are informed and challenged by the insights of others in fields that enhance our study leading beyond the content of the subject taught. The goal of this program is to provide you with opportunities to grow spiritually through transformative educational experiences promoting justice in our world.
